Current Music and the Gospel: SPIRIT Xtra for October 13

“Lego House” by Ed Sheeran

The miracle of Jesus healing ten people with leprosy in Sunday’s gospel gives us an example of God’s love for all people and in a special way for those whom society rejects. The one man who returns to thank Jesus also teaches us an important lesson: we must participate in our relationship with Jesus.

Key lines: I’m out of touch, I’m out of love/I’ll pick you up when you’re getting down/And out of all these things I’ve done I think I love you better now/I’m out of sight, I’m out of mind/I’ll do it all for you in time/And out of all these things I’ve done I think I love you better now

Questions: What is a way you experience God’s love for you? How do you show compassion to “outsiders?” When have you felt excluded, and who showed you compassion? How do you express gratitude for what you have been given? What makes something a “miracle?” Do miracles still happen? Why or why not?

  1. I experience God’s love for me when I go to church and when I pray. I show compassion to outsiders by going over and talking to them and making them feel welcome. I felt excluded when my friends didn’t invite be to a party and no one showed compassion for me.

  2. I think miracles still happen today. something good that happens unexpectedly.

  3. I express gratitude by saying thanks. I look for things to be thankful for and praise God for it.
